Hishammuddin eyeing Umno Vice President post

KOTA KINABALU:

Umno Youth Chief Datuk Sen Hishammuddin Tun Hussein will consider contesting for one of the Party’s Vice President posts in the elections in December. However, he said it was not the time yet to announce his intention. Hishammuddin who has led Umno Youth for the last 10 years, told reporters here on Saturday. “For me, it will be the divisions which will have the final say if I will be contesting for the post ... we wait for the support from the grassroots. That is my style,” he said and added that he would be mdn.itoring the Party’s divisional meetings The Education Minister stressed that it is very important for Umno members to strengthen their spirit to face future changes based on the General Election results early this year. “For me personally, it is important for Umno to have a line of strong leaders and I do not want to see any incidents that can cause disunity in the Party,” he said. On the Umno Youth, Hishammuddin said the younger generation wanted new faces and therefore it was important for the Party to put forward a fresh line of leaders in the coming election for the people to choose from. When asked about talks that Umno Youth had failed in garnering the support of youths for Umno and Barisan Nasional, he said the Coalition’s defeat in several States must be shouldered by all and the Movement should not be solely blamed for what had happened.
