Many Tawau folks ‘unaware of tremor’

Police here have not received any report of injury from the mild earthquake on Monday night, said District Police Chief ASP Jaafar Bin Yusof. Police have received a report from the MeteorologicalDepartment about the tremor around Tawau and Kunak, he said, adding it occurred at about 8.55pm and measured 2.4 on the Richter scale. “It was a mild earthquake and most of the residents did not feel it or even realise there had been an earthquake,” Jaafar added. The Fire and Rescue Department here also said they had not received any reports of incidents from the tremor. A 40-year-old taxi driver, Pang Zi Ming, said he was not aware of the tremor while he was watching television at home at Taman Semarak here. Anotherresident,Fatimah, 27, said: “I did not know there was a tremor on Sunday night until I read the news yesterday. “Maybe it was just a mild earthquake and most people did not feel it.” Husin Bin Abdullah, 36, who was out with friends at a Mamak stall during the tremor, also said he did not feel anything.
