Woman hurt after hubby sets house on fire

KOTA KINABALU:
A woman suffered burns on the body, face and legs after her husband allegedly set their wooden house in Kampung Likas on fire on Wednesday night. The 39-year-old local man claimed that he just wanted to scare his wife following an argument. City Police Chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria in confirming this said the woman is currently under observation at the intensive care unit of a hospital here. “The man only suffered slight burns on his body in the 1O.2Opm fire,” said Ahmad Sofi. It is learnt that the couple had a misunderstanding that led to the man chasing his wife, believed to be a City Hall staff, out of the house. When she refused, he took out some petrol and started pouring it around their wooden house. “According to the suspect, he did not mean to cause the fire, stressing that it was an accident. “However, the petrol had caused the fire to spread faster. The man is believed to have rescued his wife from the flames through a window. He also rushed her to the hospital,” said Ahmad Sofi, adding that the man was arrested shortly. The man is being detained for questioning.
