Teachers vital in human capital development: CM

KOTA KINABALU:

Teachers have been entrusted with developing human capital through imparting knowledge to students so that they become excellent human beings, says Chief Minister Datuk Sen Panglima Musa Haji Aman. According to Musa, teachers play a vital role by ensuring the best future for the children and creating a community able to lead the country to achieve continuous success internationally. “This is the message that we want to convey through this year’s Teacher’s Day theme of ‘Guru Cemerlang Negara Terbilang’,” he said in his speech for the prize presentation for the State-level Teacher’s Day Card Drawing Competition 2008 at Magellan Sutera Harbour here yesterday. The ceremony was organised by the Sabah Chinese Teachers Association, Kota Kinabalu SRJK (C) Headmasters Association and Kota Kinabalu Headmasters Council. Musa said that expressing gratitude to teachers is a very noble practice and greatly encouraged among students, and in fact it should be practised, especially among parents with school-going children. “Without the help of the teachers in schools, our children will not be able to acquire knowledge properly,” said Musa in the speech which was delivered by Information Technology and Resource Development Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai. Musa added that such competitions combine the aspects of developing human capital and good values, and enable students to express their gratitude and love to their teachers. The competition was held for the fourth year since 2005 and the winning card will be printed in Chinese, Malay and English. A total of 120,000 cards have been distributed in schools all over the State as well is in Peninsula: Malaysia.
