KK to host Islamic Carnival on July 21-25

KOTA KINABALU:

A State-level Islamic Arts Carnival will be held to create public awareness, especially among youths on Islamic arts, culture and heritage as well as ‘halal’ items. Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Haji Nasir Tun Sakaran said the carnival, to be held from July 21-25 at Wisma MUIS here, will feature several programmes from different Islamic celebrations. “The carnival, which will be held for the first time, is open to the public from all religions and aims to provide more exposure to the people on the development of Islam,” said Nasir, who is also Chairman of the State-level Maal Hijrah and Maulidur Rasul Celebrations Main Committee. According to Nasir, the carnival also aims to promote interest in Islamic arts and culture as a long- term approach to their preservation. “We hope the programmes that have been scheduled could help increase knowledge in Islamic arts and culture among the public as well as create a love for Islam,” he said. The programmes include Bicara Seni (co-organised withRTM Sabah), HalalExposition, Book Exposition (co-organised with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka) and the 18th Islamic Arts Mahrajan and Halal Convention. There will also be a State-level Kompang and Marhaban Art Festival on July 23 from 9am and State-level Nasyid Festival on July 23 at 7pm, with the winners chosen to represent Sabah at the National- level competition, said Nasir. The carnival will be launched on July 23-at 8.3Oam at the lobby of Wisma MUIS while the prize presentations will be held on July24 from 7pm at Dewan Saadah in the same building by Head of State Tun Haji Ahmadshah bin Abdullah. Also in attendance will be Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman, State leaders, Cabinet Ministers, Assistant Ministers, local community leaders, representatives from NGOs, and students.
