MONDAY-7 JULY 2008- DOMPOK FORWARDS PENAMPANG BOUNDARY RE-DELINEATION OBJECTION TO MUSA

Dompok forwards Penampang boundary re-delineation objection to Musa

PENAMPANG:

United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organization (UPKO) President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok has forwarded his objection to the State Government’s decision to redelineate the Penampang district boundary to make way for the new Putatan District to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. “I met him (Musa) in KL and I have talked to him,” the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Penampang Member of Parliament said. According to Dompok, the most recent meeting was not the first time he had brought the issue to the attention of the Chief Minister. “I have talked to him before about I have written letters to him. I have told him that I am taking this very seriously and yes he told me he understands what I mean. “I wait for his decision or his reply. He may want to talk to his Cabinet members. I don’t know but that is how it stands... this re-delineation of the bounda1y should not be implemented,” Dompok told a press conference after officiating the Upko Moyog’s triennial general meeting here yesterday. Last Monday, Dompok said he was objecting to the redelineation exercise which affected some 13 villagers here. “I am objecting to this (and) I am going to write to all the Cabinet ministers about this. (I) will have to register with the Federal Government my objection that this boundary cannot be in the manner that the State Government has approved,” he said. According to Dompok, he has brought to Musa the grievances of the people and has also written to him about the issue. I have also asked the Barisan Nasional (BN) Penampang to discuss the issue and all were m agreement that the new Penampang boundary should not be smaller than what has been gazetted in the Penainpang parliamentary constituency,” he said. Even if Putatan is to be upgraded into a full district, the boundary between Penampang and Putatan must be according to the parliamentary constituency boundaries where villages which are under the Putatan constituency can be under the Putatan’ district and those in the Penampang constituency remain in the Penampang disthct,” he said.
