THURSDAY-3 JULY 2008- GATHERING CRIME INFO NOT JUST JOB OF SPECIAL BRANCH

Gathering crime info not just job of Special Branch

PENAMPANG:

Gathering information on any crime activities is not solely the job for the Special Branch. “Every branch in the police station is welcome to gather and collect information, and by playing our roles, we will be able to carry out our responsibilities better,” said Deputy Head of Special Branch II, ACP Rosdi Ramli, yesterday. He added that the general officers as well as traffic officers were not spared from this responsibility. Rosdi made the remarks after witnessing the handing over of the Special Branch Chief’s duties here from outgoing Chief Inspector Suhaimi Ali Hussin to his successor ASP Wan Badrul Hisham Wan Osman. The simple ceremony was also witnessed by District Police Chief DSP Madang Usat as well as several senior officers. Madang, earlier in his speech, welcomed Wan Badrul to the District Police Station, urging the officers to collaborate with him. He described Suhaimi as a “hardworking and committed” officer, adding: “This was evident during the recent general elections, where he (Suhaimi) had worked day and night along with his officers and personnel.” The outgoing officer thanked his former colleague during his one- year tenure as the SB Chief here and hoped similar cooperation would be given to the newcomer. Wan Badrul, on the other hand, stressed that the district is nothing new to him, and pledged to work hard to maintain peace and harmony in Penampang. He described himself as an ‘approachable person’, and urged his officers and personnel to refer to him should they face any problem. Wan Badrul, a local, began his career as a senior criminal system officer at the Kepayan Police Headquarters, and proceeded to the Criminal Branch in Bukit Aman prior to his transfer here. The experienced officer was also attached to the Special Branch in Kepayan and was posted to Tarakan in East Kalimantan for four years and eight months.
