THURSDAY-3 JULY -CONTRIBUTE FULLY TO CAMPUS LIFE, NEW UMS STUDENTS TOLD

Contribute fully to campus life, new UMS students told

KOTA KINABALU:

University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has received 4,065 new students this year, including 75 from overseas, according to its Vice Chancellor, Datuk Dr Kamaruizaman Ampon. In his speech at the ‘Get to Know You’ function at the Chancellor Hall yesterday, Kamarulzaman told the students: “You are expected to graduate with flying colours, and you will be a significant element in efforts to achieve the national mission.” As students, he said they should contribute fully to campus life in order to achieve academic and co-curricular excellence and preserve UMS’ reputation. He also urged them to develop their own identity while preserving their cultural traditions. They should, he said, adopt noble values and be prepared to share their knowledge, adding they would not lose it if they did so. And as new students, they would encounter a change of environment and make new friends, but with an optimistic outlook they would be able to adjust themselves in a short time, he said. He advised them to practise a healthy lifestyle, take part in sporting activities, and make use of the facilities at UMS, including the gymnasium, saying a healthy body would contribute to a healthy mind.
